Le parc du ruisseau des Aygalades
This involves renovating the Canet site (25 ha) into an urban park. It is currently owned by the SNCF. This highly degraded site, marked by its industrial past, is subject to torrential flooding from the Aygalades river if which it occupies the bed. The parc des Aygalades (20ha), of metropolitan dimension, will be used for high-capacity hydraulic regulation in case of flooding.
Also, the park extends to the North with the parc François Billoux, and to the south with the planned parc de Bougainville (4 ha). The park will draw a green and blue boundary from the Etoile mountain range to land side, recreating ecological continuity, by significantly contributing to reducing the urban heat island, restoring biodiversity and air quality in the district.
This park is above all a major challenge for the success of the Euroméditerranée EcoCity. Living space in which the attractiveness of the extension project will be forged, it is symbolic of the EcoCity label allocated to this project, by its environmental and social effects: These vast areas of land cleared in the heart of the town will help “sew” the Northern districts back together with the town centre, and answer to the extensive needs of the residents of these districts in terms of public transport, facilities of all kinds, especially in the areas of teaching and training, sport, and parkland, which is particularly unevenly distributed compared to the South of the town.
