MuCEM conservation centre
The MuCEM conservation centre is a project designed for the storage and study of collections.
This large cold stone concrete monolith (in reference to the site’s stone elements from Cassis) like a piece of rock, is carved out of its thickness to enable natural light to penetrate. The rough and uneven concrete carapace has been scored and excavated so we can make out the luminosity of a smooth, reflective marble concrete within the solidity of the building.
This centre allows full access to preserved objects to the museum team’s curators and scientists (study areas and areas for preparing exhibitions especially). It also provides for easy consultation of collections for researchers, specialists and certified amateurs and group visits on appointment.
