Système friche théâtre
When the SEITA tobacco manufacture ceased its activity in 1990, it left exceptional potential for artistic investment at the gateway to the town centre, within a working-class area. This site was gradually taken over by the Système Friche Théâtre, a founding association which developed an original, culturally-vibrant experience, fully integrated into the social and economic fabric.
It welcomes producers and artists, coordinates the synergy and cross-disciplinarity, and is developing the project in cultural, urban, economic and social spheres. Both laboratory and developer, Système Friche Théâtre, is exploring today’s cultural concerns (multimedia, opening to the economy, training, international relations etc.) and thus prefigures producers in these new disciplines.
The Friche la Belle-de-mai brings together 300 public entertainers, artists, technicians, organisers, producers and 80,000 people who, each year, discover the works and lives of the artists...
Since it was created, the Système Friche Théâtre has been directed by Philippe Foulquié. The film director Robert Guédiguian has been chairman since June 2002.
